Video Compressor
Re-saves a video as WebM at a lower resolution and bitrate, and shows the size before and after.
The result is WebM, and the video is re-recorded in real time, so a 1-minute video takes about a minute. If the original is already well compressed, the result can even be larger.
The result is larger than the original, which may already be well compressed. Try lower quality or a smaller resolution, or keep the original.
Re-save a video that is too big to send by messenger or email, at a lower resolution and quality. It plays the video through and records it again, so it takes as long as the video, and the result is WebM. The video is processed on this device only.
How to use
- Choose or drop a video.
- Pick a resolution and quality and check the estimate.
- Press Start, then Download WebM when it finishes.
Examples
A 1920×1080 video at 720p and Medium
A 1920×1080 video at 720p and Medium becomes 1280×720 at about 1.38 Mbps video plus 96 kbps sound, roughly 10.57 MB per minute. The real size depends on the content.
FAQ
Why WebM and not MP4?
It uses the browser's built-in recorder and sticks to WebM so results are consistent across browsers. If you need MP4, convert it with another program.
Why does it take as long as the video?
The video is played at normal speed and recorded again. Keep the tab visible; hiding it stops the job.
The result is bigger than the original.
That can happen when the original is already well compressed. Try Low quality and a smaller resolution; if it is still larger, keep the original.
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is processed inside your browser and never sent or stored anywhere.
Will the quality drop?
Yes, lowering resolution and bitrate reduces sharpness. Start with Medium and adjust after checking the result.
Does it work on phones?
Some browsers can't save WebM. If so you'll see a message; try a desktop browser.
