Video to GIF Converter

Pick a clip and turn it into a GIF. The video never leaves your device.

A GIF holds up to 256 colours per frame, so it can look rougher than the video and the file can get large.

The video and the GIF stay on this device.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop a video file; it isn't uploaded.
  2. Watch it and set the start and end (up to 15 seconds); "Set start here" makes it easy.
  3. Pick the width, fps and looping, then press "Make GIF".
  4. Check the preview and press "Save GIF".

Examples

1920×1080, 2.0–5.0 s → 480×270

A 1920×1080 video, 2.0–5.0 s, width 480, 10 fps → a 480×270 GIF with 30 frames (0.1 s each), looping forever.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded?

No. The file is opened and the GIF is made in this browser on your device, and both are gone when you close the page.

Which video files work?

Anything this browser can play. MP4 (H.264) and WebM usually open; MOV or HEVC may not, depending on the browser and device. If it won't open, try another browser.

Why only 15 seconds?

A GIF stores a whole picture for every frame, so longer clips get big fast and use a lot of browser memory while encoding. Split a longer video into several clips.

Can I make a high-quality GIF?

The maximum is 640 px wide at 20 fps. More size and fps look sharper and smoother but make the file bigger, and with 256 colours per frame, colourful scenes can look blotchy.

Is the sound kept?

No. The GIF format has no sound.

My GIF is too big.

Lower the width or fps, or shorten the clip. Scenes with less movement come out smaller.
