Invert Image Colors

Flips every colour to its opposite, like a film negative. Grayscale invert too.

This flips colours, not direction. To mirror a photo, use Rotate, Flip & Mirror Image. Your original stays as it is; the result is a new file.

Add a photo and a version with light and dark swapped and every colour turned to its opposite appears next to the original. Use it for a film-negative look or to turn a white-background document dark. Transparent areas stay transparent.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop a photo.
  2. Pick Invert colours or Grayscale invert.
  3. Check the format and press Download.

Examples

Red (255, 0, 0)

Red (255, 0, 0) becomes cyan (0, 255, 255) with Invert colours, and light grey level 179 with Grayscale invert.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is changed inside your browser and is never sent or stored anywhere.

Is this the same as mirroring?

No. This tool flips colours; to flip the picture's direction, use Rotate, Flip & Mirror Image.

What is grayscale invert?

It converts to black and white first, then flips the brightness, so you get only light and dark reversed, with no colour.

Does inverting twice restore the original?

For Invert colours saved as PNG, inverting again gives the original colours. JPG is recompressed so it may differ slightly, and grayscale invert can't bring colour back.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes. Transparency isn't changed and stays when saved as PNG. JPG fills transparent areas with white.

Can I make it a partial invert?

This tool does a full invert only. For adjustable strength, use the Invert effect in Grayscale Image Converter.
