GIF Splitter

Split an animated GIF into PNG frames and download one or all of them as a ZIP.

Each frame is saved as it appears on screen (full size, combined with earlier frames). Delays are the values written in the GIF file.

Add an animated GIF and it's split into frames, shown as thumbnails with their delays. Save a single frame as a PNG, or pick a range and every Nth frame and download them all at once as a ZIP. GIFs are processed on this device only.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop a GIF file.
  2. Using the thumbnails, set the first and last frame and every Nth frame.
  3. Download one frame as PNG or several as a ZIP.

Examples

cat.gif · 24 frames · every 3rd

Add cat.gif with 24 frames at 100 ms each and it shows 2.4 s total. Choosing frames 1–24, every 3rd, puts 8 frames (1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22) into cat-frames-8.zip with names like cat-frame-001.png.

FAQ

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. The frames are split inside your browser and nothing is sent or stored anywhere.

What about GIFs where only part of each frame changes?

Yes. Each frame is combined with the earlier ones and saved at the GIF's full size, just as it looks on screen.

Some frames show a 0 ms delay.

It shows the value written in the GIF file. Browsers often play very short delays more slowly, so playback can differ.

Can I turn the frames back into a GIF?

Yes. Pick the frames you want and put them into the GIF Maker tool. GIF Maker

Does it handle GIFs with lots of frames?

The first 1,000 frames are shown. Large GIFs with many frames can be slow on some devices.

The saved PNG has a transparent background.

Areas that were transparent in the GIF stay transparent in the PNG. If you need a white background, fill it in another editor.
