Online Notepad

A notepad that saves to this browser as you type, with counts and .txt download.

Notes are saved only in this browser on this device. They don't sync to other devices and can be lost if you clear browser data or close a private window, so download anything important as .txt.

A notepad you can use right away, no sign-up or login. It saves to this browser as you type, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off, and the counts below update as you go. Nothing is sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Just start typing; there's no save button.
  2. Check the counts and save status below.
  3. Use Download .txt to keep a copy or move it elsewhere.

Examples

Meeting notes → Meeting notes.txt

A note that starts with "Meeting notes" downloads as "Meeting notes.txt". If there's no first line, it's named by date and time, like "memo-20261029-0905.txt". "hello world" counts as 11 characters, 10 without spaces and 2 words.

FAQ

Where is my note saved?

Only in this browser's storage (localStorage) on this device. It isn't sent to a server, and we can't see it.

Can I see it on another device or browser?

No, there's no sync. To move it, download it as .txt and use Open .txt on the other device.

Can my note disappear?

Yes. Clearing browsing data or site data, or closing a private window, can erase it. Download anything important as .txt.

What if I open it in several tabs?

All tabs share one note. If another tab changes it, you'll see a notice and can load that version. If you keep typing instead, whichever tab saves last wins.

How are characters counted?

Each visible character counts once. Spaces and line breaks are included in characters and left out of the without-spaces count. Words are chunks separated by spaces.

How long can a note be?

Autosave works up to 200,000 characters. Beyond that it stops and tells you, so shorten the note or download it as .txt.
