Ladder game

Type the names, tap one, and the line finds its way down. Nothing is uploaded.

One per line. Empty lanes are filled with “Pass”; an empty box numbers the lanes.

Presets

How to use

  1. Type 2 to 12 names, one per line.
  2. Type what they are playing for — one line each. Leave it empty and the lanes are numbered instead.
  3. Press Draw the ladder, then tap a name to follow its path, or reveal all of them at once.

Examples

Who buys the coffee

Four names, and “Buys the coffee” on the first result line — the other three lanes become “Pass”. Tap each name and the line walks down to its lane.

Chore rota

Six housemates and one “Cleaning duty” line. Everyone watches the same screen, so nobody re-runs the draw quietly.

Presentation order

Leave the results box empty: the lanes are numbered 1 to N, so the ladder hands out an order instead of a winner.

Drawing with people who are not in the room

Press Copy link and send it. The link carries the ladder seed and the number of lanes, not the names, so the other side types the names and sees the identical ladder.

FAQ

Is the draw fair?

The rungs are placed from a 32-bit seed, and the seed itself comes from the browser cryptographic random source unless a link supplies one. Every player lands on a different lane, and no starting position is worth more than another.

How many rungs does a ladder get?

Three per gap between lanes by default — 15 rungs for six players. Two rungs in the same row are never side by side, which is what keeps the paths from merging. More rungs mix the lanes more.

Does a shared link give the same result?

The same ladder, yes. The link holds the seed and the number of lanes (?s=), never the names or the results, so those are typed again on the other side. Type them in the same order and the outcome matches.

Why the 12-player limit?

Thirteen lanes stop being readable on a phone, and a ladder you cannot follow with your eyes is just a random number with extra steps. For bigger groups the random picker or the team generator fits better. Team Generator

Is anything saved?

No. The ladder is drawn in your browser, the names stay on the page, and a refresh clears everything. Only a link you copied yourself can bring the same ladder back.

How is this different from the random picker?

The picker answers with a name. The ladder shows the walk that produced the answer, which is the point when a group is watching — it is a draw people accept rather than a result they are told. Random Picker
