PDF to Text

Pull the text out of a PDF to copy or save as .txt. Pick pages if you like.

This pulls out only the text stored as text in the PDF. Scanned pages (pictures of text) give no text, and tables or multi-column layouts may come out in a different line order.

Choose a PDF and press Extract text to collect the text from each page into one box. You can pick just the pages you need, then copy the result or save it as a .txt file. The PDF is read on this device only.

How to use

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Pick All pages or Custom (for example 1-3, 5) and press Extract text.
  3. Copy the result or download it as .txt.

Examples

1-3, 5 in a 10-page PDF

In a 10-page PDF, entering "1-3, 5" reads pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 only. With page markers on, lines like "--- Page 1 ---" show where each page starts. report.pdf is saved as report.txt.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is read inside your browser, and the extracted text is never sent or stored anywhere.

Why is no text coming out?

In scanned or picture-based PDFs, the text is an image and can't be extracted here. Turn pages into images with PDF to JPG, then try Image to Text (OCR).

The line order or spacing looks different.

PDFs often store only where each piece of text sits, not paragraphs, so tables and multi-column pages can come out reordered or oddly spaced. You can edit the result box before copying.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

No. Password-protected PDFs aren't opened. If you know the password, save an unlocked copy first and use that.

How many pages can it handle?

Up to 500 pages. Split longer PDFs first. Many pages can take a while depending on your device.

What are page markers?

A line like "--- Page 1 ---" before each page's text shows where it came from. Turn the option off if you don't need it.
