Examples
Working hours between two dates
Counting calendar days between a project start and end tells you how long it lasted, not how much work fits inside it. Take out weekends and public holidays and multiply by hours per day, and you get the figure that actually matters for a schedule or a quote. A month that looks like 30 days is usually 20 to 22 working days, and fewer when it contains a holiday run.
Planning around Seollal or Chuseok
The two lunar holidays move every year and each one takes three days plus any substitute, so a range that crosses either loses close to a full week of working time. Because the holidays are removed automatically, the count is right without you having to look up the dates first.
Checking a deadline stated in business days
Contracts and service terms often set a period in working days rather than calendar days — ten business days for a refund, five for a response. Counting forward with weekends and holidays removed gives the real date, which is usually a week or more later than a naive calendar count suggests.
What date is 7 business days from now?
A refund promised "within 7 business days" of a receipt on Monday, 21 September 2026 lands on Friday, 2 October. Chuseok and a weekend sit in between, so the calendar gap is 11 days. Enter the receipt date, 7 and "after".
Six-day and irregular weeks
Not every schedule rests on Saturday and Sunday. Set the weekend to Sunday only for a six-day week, or clear it entirely for an operation that runs every day, and the holiday rules still apply on top. This is what makes the count usable for shift work rather than only for office schedules.
FAQ
Which holidays are removed?
South Korean public holidays as defined by the regulation on public holidays for government offices — the same list the holiday calendar on this site uses. That covers the fixed-date holidays (Labor Day and Constitution Day included from 2026), the lunar ones (Seollal, Chuseok, Buddha’s Birthday), substitute holidays, election days and temporary holidays already designated. A holiday that falls on a day you already marked as weekend is counted once, as a weekend day, so the totals never double-count.
Are both the start and end date included?
Yes. A range from Monday to Friday is five days, not four. This is the convention used when a period is described as running from one date to another, which is how contracts and schedules usually state it. If you need the exclusive count, subtract one from the total days.
Why is the year range limited?
The holiday data covers 2024 to 2049, because the substitute-holiday rules were phased in over recent years and applying today’s rules to older dates would invent days off that never happened. Dates outside that window are still counted, but the tool tells you that the holiday exclusion could not be applied to the whole range.
Does it know about company holidays or temporary holidays?
Temporary holidays designated so far are already in (1 October 2024, 27 January 2025, 3 June 2025), and so are election days. Company shutdowns, collective leave and a temporary holiday announced after this data was built are not. Open “Add your own days off”, type those dates one per line, and they are removed like any holiday and listed in the breakdown.
How does this differ from the date calculator?
The date calculator counts every calendar day, including weekends and holidays, which is the right answer for questions about elapsed time. This tool answers the opposite question — how many of those days are actually worked. Use the date calculator for age, anniversaries and deadlines stated in calendar days, and this one for anything stated in business days.
How are "N business days later" counted?
The start date is day 0 and the next working day is day 1, so Friday + 1 business day is Monday. A start date that is itself a weekend or holiday still counts as day 0.
When does "within 7 business days" end?
Counting the receipt date as day 0, on the 7th working day after it. Contracts differ on whether the first day is included — if yours includes it, enter 6.
Is the hours figure a payroll calculation?
No, it is a simple multiplication of working days by the hours you enter. Real payroll depends on overtime bands, night premiums, paid weekly rest and your workplace size, none of which this tool knows.
