For adults (19 and over). Children and teenagers are read against age-and-sex BMI percentiles, which this does not calculate.

Everything happens on this device.

How to use

  1. Enter height and weight. Switch the units if you work in feet and pounds.
  2. The BMI appears to one decimal, with the category that number falls in.
  3. The healthy range is the weight that lands in the healthy band at your height.

Examples

170 cm and 65 kg

BMI 22.5 — inside the healthy band under both the WHO and the Korean cut-offs.

The same number, two sets of cut-offs

BMI 26.1 is "overweight" under the general WHO bands and the first obesity band under the Korean ones. The number has not changed; the line has.

Feet and pounds

5 ft 9 in is 175.26 cm and 176 lb is 79.83 kg, which comes to 26.0.

FAQ

Is the BMI formula different for men and women?

No. Adults use the same formula, kg ÷ m², and the same cutoffs for men and women.

Why do Korean and WHO cutoffs differ?

Korean cutoffs (23, 25) reflect Asian data; general WHO cutoffs are 25 and 30.

Is this a diagnosis?

For reference only, not a diagnosis. BMI ignores muscle and fat distribution; ask a health professional.
